3 Ways Your Emotional Overwhelm Destines Your Business to Fail

Hey guys and welcome to today’s video. I’m Vicky Murgatroyd from Life Empowerment Project. Today’s blog is going to be all about the 3 ways in which your emotional overwhelm destines your business to fail. These are the things that, as we’re going through the educational system, that you’re not taught. You’re not taught how to manage your emotional state and you’re not taught how your emotional state effects the results you can produce. It’s really important we get down to these fundamentals so you can create a really strong foundation that can really support a massively thriving business.

As you know, you are the Number 1 cog that keeps your business running, so we need to make sure you’re in tip top shape all the time, and that is really reliant on your emotional state.

So, let’s get straight onto it.

First of all, when you’re emotionally overwhelmed, you’re focused on the bad stuff. Your mind is focused on the negatives, what’s gone wrong, what deals haven’t gone through, etc. We know that where your focus goes is where all your energy flows. The more you focus on pain, for instance, the more it’s going to hurt. The more you focus on the pleasure, the pain just dwindles. And the same goes here, the more you focus on the negative, the more seems to accumulate and pile on top of it, which clearly at that stage is the very last thing you need. So really important, when things are going ‘badly’, focus on the good. A key way to do this is to get grateful. We’ve spoken about it before, but get grateful. There’s so much in your life that you have to be grateful for, and when your focus moves to what you’re grateful for, you’ll be handed more stuff to be grateful for. Focus on the positive, focus on what is going well, and focus on your gratitude for everything you have. And you’ll find your circumstances will change very very quickly.

Secondly, you become too emotionally attached to the outcomes when you’re in this state of emotional overwhelm. You let your happiness ride on this external situation going really well, or making you loads of money, or really elevating your status or whatever. This strips you of your power – really disempowers you. YOU can choose your emotional state – you choose how to respond to any given situation, it’s all up to you. You’re driving the bus: no one and nothing can ever take that control from you, unless you choose to let it. And I know now that you will not be choosing to let it!

Also allowing that outcome of the steps you’re taking to determine you’re happiness, puts an awful lot of pressure on you and on the situation, and we tend to enter this analysis paralysis where we have to get everything spot on perfect, and all that does is grind your progress down, so it becomes slow and laborious. Focus on taking the steps and really enjoy each and every effort that you’re putting into the business, knowing that you will be rewarded, and being grateful for every step you get to take all the way. So that is inspired action, where you’re really enjoying it, you’re in a state of flow. The universe responds to energy levels – when you’re putting out that energy level that’s exactly what you’ll be attracting back to you.

So the third and final Way Your Emotional Overwhelm Destines You To Fail, and possibly the most important of all. When you’re in a state of emotional overwhelm, you’re in fight or flight response. You’re in fight or flight mode all the time. Your sympathetic nervous system fires, flooding your body with cortisol and adrenaline, because it believes you’re in danger – there’s something you need to protect yourself from, by either running away or fighting your way out. So you get even more stress hormone and even more adrenaline, resulting in more nervous panicky energy. Your body believes that it is helping though. When your body goes into this protection mode, your sympathetic nervous system is firing. This is your body’s stress response. The parasympathetic is your body’s relaxation response. This is where your body should naturally and normally reside. Your stress response should just be a quick flash of adrenaline, but we’re not built for this to last – your relaxation response should take back over very quickly. However, we live in this state of high stress, never coming down and never allowing our relaxation response to take over. When the relaxation response does take over, it clears your body of the stress hormones, and brings you back down to earth – a lot more centred and grounded, and your mind begins to work in a much more creative way. You shut off protection mode and enter into creation mode. Your thoughts become a lot slower, a lot more cohesive and easier to understand. You are a lot more focused. As a business owner, you need to be in creation mode. So we go from protection mode to creation mode. This is where your magic lies, your creativity, intelligence and aptitude to see all these masses of options, that’s what you bring to the table. However, when we go into panic mode we become very tunnel visioned, missing out on a lot of what is going on. We fail to see solutions and ways out of problems.

Let’s recap. The three ways that your emotional overwhelm destines your business to fail:

Firstly – you’re focused on the negative. And where your focus goes is where your energy flows. Where your energy is flowing, that’s what you’re going to be attracting to you. Literally, you attract more bad stuff to you when you focus on the bad. Bring your focus back to the present moment, to what you’re grateful for, and move forward.

Secondly – you become emotionally attached to the outcomes of your actions when you’re emotionally overwhelmed. You put a lot of pressure on yourself, and your happiness is riding on something that is external to you – no good! This disempowers you, takes away all of your centred groundedness.

Thirdly, and possibly the most important of the 3 Ways Your Emotional Overwhelm Destines Your Business to Fail. Your stress response is really firing when you’re emotionally overwhelmed. When you take time out to really elicit your relaxation response, your body gets rid of all those stress hormones, you get much more centred and grounded, and your body and mind enter creation mode. Your body got in fight or flight mode to protect you, so and you come into creation mode, your mind slows down. You get a lot more productive, centred and present. And from this state you bring the magic; you’re the best version of yourself when you’re in this state of mind.
