What we’re going to talk about today is an essential part of you getting to live that life that you’re born to live, that you’re here to live. That is to shatter your loyalty to other people’s opinions, so you can really start to let your light shine.
I was talking to a great client of ours and she was relaying to us how she used to get really worried when she’d spend time with her friends about telling them about her successes. She was used to seeing them kind of tear people down who had been doing really well then hit some kind of roadblocks or hard times – like they waited for their failure or something. And she definitely didn’t want to be the one they were tearing down or ridiculing for their failings, so she found herself limiting how hard she would push herself to reach the success she really did want deep down. The problem is, when you do that you’re not going to fulfil your potential and live the life you’re here to live – which leads to you being deeply unsatisfied, unsettled and unhappy with yourself.
Shattering your loyalty to other people’s opinions is such a huge step to take, and it is going to change your life and change the way you approach everything in your life.
Other people’s opinions are none of your business! I’m sure you’ve heard that saying before, but let me go into a little depth and explain why that is true. So of all the information we’re filtering all the time, only a few of those get filtered through – the pieces of information that mean something to us. So when we’re seeing a situation we’re only seeing a distorted version – through our own perspective and perception. So anyone looking at you and forming an opinion – that’s their opinion of you. They can only have that opinion because of the way they are filtering the information and everything else. Other people’s opinions of you are meaningless, completely irrelevant! YOUR opinion of you is everything. It’s going to allow you to reach new heights, to reach your potential and really get to where you want to go. We all feel fear but it’s the pushing yourself beyond it where the magic really lies. When you get loyal to you, and your opinion of you, success and what you can achieve, then so many doors are going to open for you. There will be endless opportunities for you to succeed, fulfil your goals and feel awesome about yourself in the process.
One of the things that is so important to assess is your friendship group! You want to be spending time with people who encourage you to reach new levels of success, and you want to be one of those people doing the encouraging as well! The Marianne Williamson quote goes something like…”when you let your light shine, you unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.”
On the flipside of that, if you’re quashing your light, if you’re not allowing yourself to be you in the best way possible, then unconsciously that’s what you’re reflecting to other people around you, and that’s what they’ll be reflecting back to you. So you’re doing them a disservice, as much as you’re doing yourself a disservice, by not allowing your light to shine as brightly as it’s designed to.
Also assess your values, and get clear on your dreams. You need to get super sure of yourself, and get in complete alignment with that, and everything will just fall into place for you. It really is so important.
So…what results can you expect to see when you fulfil this – when you get loyal to your own ideals, and you just focus on that?
You’re going to see other people transform around you – people are going to conform to your expectations whether they’re good or bad, so when you have great expectations of other people you’ll find they do fulfil them. When you have awesome expectations of yourself, you’re going to fulfil that as well! Plus you’re going to feel new levels of self-satisfaction and really get in tune with yourself and where you’re going.
